As a contracted and regular supplier to their Student Union, we were approached by Birmingham University to provide temporary structures for their Welcome Week activities. Five structures were required for their international and local welcome and registration hubs located at the new “Green Heart” parkland area of Birmingham University campus.
Our solution was to provide two 20m x 30m Clearspan Premium Structures with Curved PVC Roof on 3m Leg, a 15m x 30m Clearspan Premium Structure with Curved PVC Roof on 3m Leg, a 15m x 15m Clearspan Premium Structure with Curved PVC Roof on 3m Leg and a 3m x 3m Pagoda.
One of the structures required a festival theme so we provided clear roofs and soft sides, with festoon lighting, oak barrel tables, and wood effect table cloths to ensure a very different environment.
In the lead up to the event we experienced terrible downpours, so we advised that cassette ring beam floor systems be used as a counter measure. As a result, each of the four premium structures had a cassette ring beam floor system, and carpeted throughout. This worked very well and kept everything in perfectly good order.
The build itself presented our crew with a number of challenges. Due to ongoing building works, access to the site was very severely restricted, blocking our normal route. This slowed the build considerably and we had to carefully plan to make sure everything was ready on time.
