The Shrewsbury Flower Show is one of the country’s premier and longest running flower show events, attracting top exhibitors from all over the country. The 2022 edition of the show was the first one hosted post Covid-19.
Comprising a large number of marquees, the show is held in The Quarry near the River Severn, the main recreational park for the town’s residents, which has been its home for over 130 years. In all, Fews built over 8,000 square metres of marquee, comprising 20 individual structures of varying types and sizes.
The main Quarry Marquee area was host to some of the top horticulturalists in the country and consisted of three structures covering over 2000 square metres. Severn Marquee was home to the various societies, amateur growers plus bees and honey exhibitors. Dingle Marquee was home to the popular Floral Art Exhibitors, the WI and Ask the Expert.
The Member’s Marquee was raised nearly 2 metres off the ground with a sub-floor levelling platform and DDA compliant access ramps. This achieved great views over the arena hosting such events as The Shetland Pony Grand National, the Alice in Wonderland Royal Tea Party and the RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team.
Overall, this was a large project whose success was only possible through team-work and excellent communication with an existing long-standing committee of volunteers and the Showground manager.
The marquees we supplied were a mix of premium structures, universal structures, and pagodas, with the emphasis on providing the cleanest stock possible.
As a busy public park, one of the main challenges of the site was ensuring safety through careful planning, segregation of work areas, and well signed vehicle access routes. Fews controlled the process through good logistical planning with a dedicated on-site Project Manager to oversee the install and removal.
